Lunch Time Chat with Pylot Magazine

Photo Meet is proud to present the Saturday Lunch-Time Chat with PYLOT Magazine

Published bi-annually, PYLOT aims to pioneer a modern approach in a digitally saturated image economy. The publication works with a carefully selected group of the most exciting creative minds to form a distinct voice through its design and content. The soul of the magazine is devoted to the publication of all analogue fashion, fine art and architectural images. It subscribes to a strict no beauty retouching policy, celebrating the unique artistry of analogue processes. The objective is to offer readers a critically engaging, rich and multi-faceted content. Through the craft of creating images PYLOT looks to explore the ever-increasing questions that form around the ethical uses of photography in fashion and popular culture.

Editor-in-Chief Max Barnett and Creative and Fashion Director Patricia Villirillo will talk about the editorial line of the magazine, which work they are looking to publish and the message PYLOT wishes to deliver to its readership.

    Photobook Club

The Offspring ’17 Photo Meet is proud to host the Photobook Club on Saturday 13th May from 15:00 until 17:30 at our Space HQ in East London!!!

    Photo Book Club Registration

The Photobook Club, founded in 2011 by Matt Johnston is an on and offline project created as a space for conversations around the photobook. The project has developed into an international network generating events, publications and critical discussions, bringing together a variety of voices connected with the photobook with those who are new to the format. The philosophy is one of openness and access, believing that the photobook does not need to be a veiled and complex work of which we only trust a select few voices. Instead, here, the photobook is a vibrant medium for open consideration, learning and enjoyment.

  • Laura El-Tantawy & Kevin Davy

    Laura El-Tantawy & Kevin Davy

The Offspring ’17 Photo Meet presents

Laura El-Tantawy & Kevin Davy in

    Beyond Here Is Nothing

Laura and Kevin will interact in a live performance of photographs and music.

The evocative images of Laura’s latest work will be projected while Kevin will improvise with mighty trumpet skills in a dance of words, music and photographs.

Beyond Here Is Nothing is a photographic meditation on the idea of ‘home’. For much of my life home has been an abstract place far away from my reach. This body of work navigates the boundaries of being – exploring the unsettling feeling of rootlessness, the mental burden of loneliness and the constant search for belonging in unfamiliar places.

FREE Entry!! but you MUST REGISTER! Valid for all Saturday evening and night program!

Laura El-Tantawy is an Egyptian photographer. She was born in Worcestershire, England to Egyptian parents. She attended high school in Saudi Arabia, started university in Cairo, Egypt and completed her degree in the US. Living between East and West for much of her life has been a source of both immense enlightenment and considerable anxiety — contemplating notions of home, identity, culture and ultimately, ‘the self’. It is through the allure of photography as an artistic medium of limitless boundaries that she chooses to explore these themes. With her characteristically painterly and impressionistic eye on reality, Laura explores social and environmental issues pertaining to her background.

Kevin Davy is a London-based trumpeter, composer, arranger and bandleader. In a career spanning three decades, he has amassed an extensive recorded discography, which includes work ranging from musical theatre to modern jazz and contemporary music. He has toured extensively with groups such as: Lamb, Adam F, Lemn Sissay’s Secret Society, and Finley Quaye. Born in Nottingham in 1961 and relocating to Manchester in 1986 becoming a well-known figure in the city’s vibrant arts and music scene and building strong affiliations with venues Band On The Wall and PJ Bells where he held long residencies. In 1994 Kevin relocated to London. Collaborations with the writer SuAndi and others followed, participation in many community-driven projects and more recently a longstanding international tour with the acclaimed show Afrika Afrika, conceived by Andre Heller and choreographed by Georges Mamboye.

    About Gary

Hailing from the silicone streets of Los Angeles, Gary moved to London in 2010. He landed one day before the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland, but he insists he had nothing to do with it. Having recently passed the ‘Life in the UK’ exam, he probably knows more about British history than you do; though he did cram for the test and has forgotten most of it. Gary has a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and a Masters in Philosophy; he pursued the latter degree after his then girlfriend dumped him, and he thought Philosophy was a good choice since he had a beard. After defeat on Tinder, he had some success chronicling his failure in a well-received book ‘Rejected’; Society Magazine (France) later dubbed him “Le Grand Loser de Tinder”. But his luck is not all bad, and once won 1 gallon of apple juice 7 times at his local grocery market — proving his motto “lucky in apple juice, unlucky in love.”

A few years ago when my first son was born, I wanted to experience as much of his earlier years as I possibly could. I didn’t feel like traveling much, so I decided to look for a photography project close to home. I embarked on a mission to create a photographic archive of my new neighbourhood in East London. My aim was to photograph as many people and places as possible; I organised pop-up studios offering free portraits, photographed people in their homes, took pictures of shop owners and anything else that I found interesting. Hundreds of people have been photographed, and some, several times since I have started. As the project evolved, I decided I wanted to create a magazine to put the photos in, and now I am the publisher of a magazine released from time to time. I have discovered that there are always new things to explore on my doorstep and have made friends from all walks of life, whom I would never have met if it hadn’t been for this project.

Loupe is a free photography magazine launched in May 2016.  Primarily featuring early and mid-career photographers, Loupe showcases engaging projects and stunning images.  With no theme each issue aims to celebrate the diversity of the medium. Loupe’s ethos is to be an approachable and encouraging publication, the team review and respond to all submissions and always offer feedback when asked. Loupe is distributed at photographic and publishing centric locations as well as events such as Format photography festival. Issue Four is set for release in May 2017 and the team are planning to expand the roster of stockist both nationally and internationally.
