Joanna Moran is currently the Photography Director of Empire magazine. With over 20 years’ experience in publishing and advertising, Joanna has worked at a number of well-respected magazines — Empire, ShortList, Men’s Health and Maxim — as well as worldwide advertising agency, JWT.

As Empire’s Photography Director, Joanna commissions and produces celebrity Empire Focus and Spotlight shoots worldwide, reportage stories such as last year’s visit to the Laika headquarters in Portland, and events such as the three-day Empire Live at the O2 and the annual Empire Awards at The Camden Roundhouse.

Prior to Empire, Joanna was Photography Director at ShortList magazine for over five years, where she worked on the weekly issue, produced the twice-yearly MODE style special, and commissioned the stand-alone sponsored supplements in association with consumer clients, such as American Express, House Of Fraser, and John Lewis.

During her time at Men’s Health magazine, Joanna had the unenviable role of casting and booking fitness models. She loved the still-life food shoots.Joanna has been lucky enough to have worked with a number of amazingly skilled photographers, both here and abroad — Matthew Brookes, Jill Greenberg, Marco Grob, Matt Holyoak, Nadav Kander, Pamela Littky, Rankin, Ramona Rosales, Steve Schofield, Art Streiber, Mario Testino, Norman Wong, and has an ever-growing list of talent still to work with.
