Helen Healy

I am a highly experienced picture editor who has worked in the industry for over 30 years. I am currently a freelance photo editor. Until November 20223 I was the Head of Pictures at the Financial Times and played a large part in its visual evolution, moving it towards picture-led storytelling content. I have also worked at other notable British newspapers including the Guardian and The Times, where in both instances I led teams that enhanced the visual presentation and picture content of news and magazine products. I am comfortable at delivering high quality photos to meet deadlines in a busy news environment. I have managed picture desks, commissioned photography from around the world, sourced pictures for wide ranging content, have negotiated contracts, managed budgets and am well versed in copyright law. I have been a judge in several photographic competitions, most recently the annual Press Photographers of Ireland Awards and spoken about photojournalism and picture editing at various panel discussions.
